My wife and I have one subject that causes endless arguments. We never manage to properly organise a shared calendar/diary and also we do not have one place to store contact details.
Most of the time we tick along OK but since I have the memory of a seive every now and then it breaks now big time!
So I have been considering a technology solution.
I have considered going entirely google and having shared google calendars which we could access via a smart phone, however access to the google calendar on a phone is limited to SMS reminders at present, and gmail contacts although accessable from a phone, could not then be directly phoned, since the java gmail application does not integrate with the main phone OS.
Does anyone else have a good solution that somehow syncs with a partner? Which smart phones work really nicely?
I'm willing to have some 'server' technology on a PC at home or maybe a hosted application, but probably cannot afford an exchange server!
All suggestions welcome.

Dec 13, 2006 at 2:23 PM CalDAV. For that you'll need the forthcoming release of Horde (v4.2), then use iCal on OSX or Sunbird / Lightning from the Mozilla foundation, or Horde itself. Take a look at http://www.calconnect.org/ for more details.
Dec 13, 2006 at 3:24 PM Thanks for the comment. At one level what you suggest is the answer, but I want someone else to go worry about standards and interoperability and all that, and then to simpley say - 'if you buy these two phones and have this software' it will all work! Lazy I know but thats what I'm really after. I expect calDAV would be behind it somewhere....
