Completely non technical post for a change. Yesterday I spent the day with my family at Seaworld Orlando, Florida.
After a relaxing week on Marco Island (further South) where the pace of life is slow and gentle, Orlando is a shock to the senses!
However it was a fun day at Seaworld. My son and I braved The Kraken roller coaster. I have to say its one of the most extreme I have ever been on. It only lasts 3-4 minutes but was fast and scary!
More on CVS on my return.

I've just added google ads to this blog. Took a couple of days for Google to approve me and then a simple setup process, basically choosing the format and colour of the ads section.
I'm sure I'll soon be able to retire on the profits. :-)

At home I have always been a user of Norton Anti-virus from Symantec, and to give this product its due it has never let me down. However each year when I renew my subscription I am left with a slightly 'bad taste' by the aggressive way that they attempt to encourage me to upgrade. Basically if your version is not the latest version you are no longer entitled to support although you can still subscribe to the anti-virus updates. I'm a little suspicious about this since parts of the software are upgraded along with the anti-virus updates through out the year anyway. So I decided to try the
free edition of AVG Anti-virus from Grisoft.
I read some reviews which suggested that the interface was a bit clunky, but I have been running this for two weeks now and so far I am very impressed by the professional quality of the product. The free edition is limited to non-commercial home use.

We are moving to the office building next door over the weekend. As I have the day off tomorrow I have been packing up my desk today. I have worked for this
group of companies for 10 years now and have moved countless times as the company has expanded. Each time I have moved I have less and less paper that I actually want to keep. Documentation is online now, we track issues using
JIRA, source code control via eclipse and CVS means I rarely print out any code I'm working on. I have a working A4 pad I take to meetings (still better than any electronic note taking IMHO) and I have a sheet of A4 for each of my team with a year planner on each, which is our
'hi-tec' holiday and sickness system, and thats it! So one electro-magnetic pulse in South London area and my work life is wiped out!

If you have not seen this already its a very nice handy ftp client that integrates seemlessly into firefox and becomes just another tab when you want to use it. The previous version had some minor glitches, but even with these it is so convenient that I prefer it to other clients I have used. Hopefully the new version (released 2-FEB-2006) will be better than ever. You can find it here.
