I'm a supporter of the concept of fairtrade. This means that the small producers of goods and produce in developing countries get a fair price for what they produce and can therefore support their families and better their lives.
The contrast to this is large multinational companies using their buying power to squeeze prices which when fed through a series of middle men often leaves the producer with very little.
To have it all explained far better than I can visit the fairtrade web site and in particular see their campaign to raise awareness coming up for two weeks in fairtrade fortnight.
I've been trying to persuade my colleagues at work to switch to fairtrade tea and coffee. Its just as good as any of the big brands, but is doing something directly to combat poverty.
Some of the offices have switched but not all....
